Mindfulness Meditation
What benefits can mindfulness meditation offer you? What is all the hype about? Here is a personal account of my journey with mindfulness meditation and the valuable lessons I’ve gained along the path.
Nearly two decades ago, a friend invited me to a two-hour meditation workshop, sparking my interest in the practice. As I closed my eyes and connected with my inner self, a profound sense of calmness washed over me, a sensation I had never experienced before. From that moment on, I was captivated and committed to making meditation a regular part of my life.
And so I began meditating for 20 minutes each night, eventually extending my sessions to an hour. Through years of practice, exploration of different techniques, and encounters with meditation masters across the globe, I underwent significant personal transformation and learned invaluable lessons to share with others.

5 Valuable Lessons I Learned
1. Different things for different people
Meditation involves focusing all attention on the object of meditation, whether it’s the breath, an affirmation, visualization, or mantra. Mindfulness, on the other hand, is about being present in the moment without judgment. People meditate for various reasons, such as improving health, personal growth, or spiritual connection. Regardless of your motivation, consistent practice is key to reaping the benefits across different areas of life.
2. Three essential virtues
Consistency, interest, and openness are crucial for a solid mindfulness meditation practice. Maintain stubborn consistency by practicing daily, stay curious and engaged in learning about meditation, and cultivate a Zen-like openness by focusing on the process rather than outcomes.
3. Moving Buddha, Living Buddha
Integrating mindfulness beyond formal practice is essential for its full impact. Remind yourself throughout the day of the calmness experienced during meditation and bring mindfulness to daily activities. Embracing strong emotions within meditation can lead to profound liberation from their hold on you.
4. Things will change
Meditation can shift your perspective and self-identity, fostering greater flexibility and understanding of your thoughts and emotions. Embrace these changes with an open mind.
5. I’m not my mind
Through meditation, I’ve learned to detach from my thoughts and feelings, recognizing them as temporary movements in consciousness. This awareness grants me the freedom to choose how to respond to them, fostering a sense of power and liberation.
