Long ago, people looked to Nature for their survival, developing a deep respect for all living beings and the rhythms of the natural world. They used the monthly full moon to mark the changing seasons, often naming each moon after abundant foods or blooming flowers. June’s full moon signaled the shift from Spring to Summer and the ripening of wild strawberries.
Both Algonquin and European cultures called June’s full moon the Full Strawberry Moon, representing the upcoming harvest of “June-bearing” strawberries.
The Tlingit and Cree referred to June’s moon as the Egg Laying Moon and the Birth Moon, recognizing it as a time of new life in Nature. As eggs hatched and animals gave birth, life flourished with vibrant green grasses, flowing waters, ripening fruits, and the joyful energy of the sun.
