Dehydrated, rough skin is often not due to insufficient moisturizing. More commonly, it results from using products that do not properly nourish the skin barrier — such as water-based lotions that evaporate, harsh cleansers that strip away natural oils, or oils that simply sit on the surface without penetrating.
Below are eight highly effective oils for addressing dry, flaky skin, along with guidance on selecting the right one for you.
The complete hydration regimen.
Every Kanya Body Oil incorporates seven of these oils as a foundation, including the most deeply hydrating options listed below.

1. Maracuja Oil
Maracuja (passion fruit seed oil) is a silky-smooth oil that imparts a luxurious feel to body blends without weighing the skin down. Packed with linoleic acid, vitamin C, and flavonoids, it helps maintain skin elasticity and counteracts oxidative damage. Gentle enough for almost all skin types.
2. Meadowfoam Seed Oil
The composition of meadowfoam seed oil closely resembles that of human sebum, allowing the skin to absorb it deeply. Its long-chain fatty acids create a protective barrier that locks in moisture without blocking pores.
3. Moringa Seed Oil
An ancient beauty remedy from Egypt, moringa is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and cytokinins, which promote cell renewal and slow down visible signs of aging. Particularly beneficial for dry skin with emerging fine lines.
4. Pumpkin Seed Oil
Abundant in zinc and natural selenium, pumpkin seed oil aids in wound healing, evens out skin tone, and gently firms the skin — making it ideal for dry skin that has lost some of its elasticity along with moisture.
5. Rosehip Seed Oil
Loaded with trans-retinoic acid (vitamin A), rosehip oil rejuvenates cell membranes and reverses aging indicators. Dermatologists commonly recommend it for combination dry or aging skin. With a low comedogenic rating of 1, it is unlikely to clog pores.
6. Safflower Oil
Rich in linoleic acid, safflower oil acts as a potent antioxidant and humectant, drawing moisture from the air into the skin. It is particularly effective for skin prone to wrinkling when dry, as linoleic acid helps plump the skin’s surface.
7. Vitamin E Oil
Technically an additive rather than a base oil, vitamin E is an oil-soluble antioxidant that prevents other oils in a blend from oxidizing on the skin. It is often referred to as the “magic vitamin” by some of our team members.
8. Jojoba Oil
Although not included in Kanya’s specific blends, jojoba oil is noteworthy for its resemblance to human sebum due to its wax ester structure. It is commonly recommended for sensitive skin that may react to other oils.
How to apply them
The most crucial guideline is to apply the oil on damp skin. After showering, while the skin is still moist, before fully drying off. This allows the oil to bond with water and permeate the skin barrier instead of just sitting on the surface.
Follow these steps:
- Gently pat the skin until slightly damp (not dripping).
- Warm a small amount of body oil in your palms.
- Press the oil into the skin on your chest, arms, legs, and feet.
- Wait for 60 seconds before dressing.
Consistently following this routine is more effective than using a standalone moisturizer for revitalizing dry skin.
