Monday, Sept. 29 marks National Coffee Day, a time when coffee enthusiasts can enjoy free coffee and take advantage of discounts on their favorite coffee beverages and brewing equipment for home use.
Despite rising coffee prices, the daily ritual of enjoying a cup of coffee remains a constant for two-thirds of Americans. With National Coffee Day approaching on Monday, Sept. 29, coffee shops across the country will be offering freebies and special deals to celebrate this beloved beverage.
Coffee’s popularity continues to soar, with 66% of Americans reporting that they consume at least one cup of coffee per day, a nearly 7% increase from the previous year according to a survey conducted by the National Coffee Association. Additionally, the survey revealed that most coffee drinkers indulge in an average of 2.8 cups daily, based on responses from 1,862 U.S. adults surveyed in June 2025 by Dig Insights.
While many individuals still opt for coffee on the go, with 36% enjoying their coffee away from home, the majority (82%) prefer to savor their coffee within the comfort of their own homes, as indicated by the survey findings.
“Coffee’s enduring appeal as a cherished part of Americans’ daily routines is truly remarkable, and its positive impact on our health and economy gives us even more reason to celebrate this National Coffee Day and every day,” stated Bill Murray, president and CEO of the National Coffee Association, in the survey’s press release.
However, the cost of coffee is on the rise. In August, the average price of a pound of ground roast coffee stood at $8.87, reflecting a 40% increase from the previous year’s price of $6.31, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This rise in cost is attributed in part to weather-related factors and tariffs.
Given the increase in coffee prices, taking advantage of a deal or freebie can help alleviate the strain on your coffee budget. Here are some enticing specials for National Coffee Day, but don’t forget to check your favorite local coffee shop’s social media accounts for additional offers.
Clean Juice: Treat yourself to a 16-ounce Coffee One smoothie for just $5 (regularly starting at $7.99) on Sept. 29.
