Can you believe it’s already September? And it’s Monday! It’s interesting how this combination feels like a fresh start.
I often see September as a mini new year, even more so than January. January can be cold and everyone is recovering from the holidays. But September brings a sense of coziness, the perfect temperature, the first hoodie you can wear without breaking a sweat. It’s a reminder that there’s still time left in the year to make changes.
For some reason, September makes me feel less alone. Maybe it’s because the season encourages us to seek comfort and connection with others.
Feeling like it’s a fresh start, I’ve been thinking about the small things I want to start (or start again) this month. I’ll share them here in case they inspire you too:
-
Review my goals—just a quick check-in, not a complete overhaul. I’ll focus on the ones that still matter and let go of the ones that no longer do.
-
Declutter a small area each week. Whether it’s a drawer, a folder, a wardrobe, or my desk. I find decluttering inspiring, especially during the changing seasons.
-
Work outside of my home more often. Cafés, coworking spaces, anywhere with people around. My work can feel isolating, so I crave the background noise sometimes.
-
Get back into pilates. I’ve let it slide, and I miss the grounded and strong feeling it gives me. September seems like the perfect time to restart.
-
Make time for hobbies. Especially reading. I want more evenings curled up with a book instead of staring at a screen until my brain feels fried.
-
Take more walks. Especially in the early evening when the light has that September glow.
-
Cook something comforting. Soups, stews, anything that fills the kitchen with warmth and coziness.
-
Create a September playlist. Music that captures the essence of falling leaves and golden skies.
-
Plan something enjoyable. Maybe a fun day out with a friend, a weekend getaway, or a special activity like a pottery class. Something small but exciting to look forward to.
-
Take more photos. Capturing the little moments that feel like September.
- Start an online course I’ve been procrastinating on. There’s one I’ve been wanting to take for a while, and September feels like the right time to dive in.
- Explore new cafés and local spots. I’m excited to finally visit the charming places I always pass by but never explore.
So that’s my focus: embracing the opportunity to start anew, even in small but meaningful ways. If you’re feeling the September energy too, consider picking one small thing for yourself. Light a candle, take a walk, or begin a new book. Let it be your personal fresh start.
✨ I’d love to hear from you—what’s something you’d like to begin (or restart) this month, or before the year ends?
