Discover the delightful and satisfying lentil tacos that can be effortlessly prepared in a pressure cooker or on the stovetop. The process is simple, and the rich, smoky flavors are simply divine!
Ever tried lentil tacos? You won’t even notice the absence of meat. They are bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious!

Preparing Lentils for Tacos
The most convenient way to make the filling for these lentil tacos is by using a pressure cooker!
This method requires minimal effort and is much quicker compared to stovetop cooking (although stovetop instructions are available if needed).
- Combine brown or green lentils, broth, and basic pantry seasonings in a pressure cooker.
- Seal the lid and valve and cook for 12 minutes.
- Allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes before releasing the remaining pressure.
- Add salsa for a fresh, delicious flavor boost.
For stovetop cooking, combine lentils, broth, and seasonings in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer, cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook for 40 to 45 minutes until lentils are tender. Stir in salsa.

Additional Tips for Success
I have some advice to share. It’s worth a listen. (If you detect a “mom voice,” you’re on the right track – these two sentences are frequently repeated in my house – whether or not the listening part happens is another story, but that doesn’t stop me from sharing my thoughts. 🤣)
Firstly, ensure you select a brand (or homemade version) of broth and salsa with exceptional flavor. Both will greatly impact the overall taste of the lentils.
Secondly, if you’re unsure about the type of lentils to use, brown or green lentils are ideal for this recipe. Red or yellow lentils tend to break down more and may result in a mushy consistency.
Thirdly, remember to season the lentil mixture with salt and pepper before serving, if necessary!

Suggestions for Serving
The flavorful lentils can be enjoyed in hard or soft taco shells with your favorite toppings, or they can be used in a taco salad.
I often pair the leftover lentil mixture with eggs and a sprinkle of cheese for a delightful breakfast or lunch. A winning combination!
If you’re seeking meatless meal inspiration, these lentil tacos should be at the top of your list! They are quick and easy to make, offering a nutritious and hearty meal.
I assure you, you won’t miss the meat. However, if you’re transitioning to meatless meals (or convincing your family to do the same 😉), these lentils can be combined with ground beef or cooked chicken for a delicious compromise.
